All about volume and movement, Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton SS’24 collection bridged the gap between high fashion and elevated essentials. Having shown an affinity for mixing styles and fabrics, Nicolas captured the essence of his signature creative vocabulary for the collection showcased last year in October, at Champs-Élysées in Paris.

The term ‘fascinating’ is certainly what the SS’24 collection can be described as—a compendium of inspiration starting from Nicolas’ penchant for travel with a captivating hot air balloon inspired backdrop envisioned by the American production designer, James Chinlund, in her scenography of a warm summer light set. With styles that were punctuated with graphic stripes and sophisticated motifs—like the two-tone oversize leather jacket, double-layered long silk skirt, and the long sleeve striped silk top—the construction of his striking pieces fused quintessential Parisian fashion with vintage style codes.

But as contrast is the mother of creativity, and Louis Vuitton, over the years has shown their love for surprising their audience; Nicolas enamoured his spectators by transferring the illusion of travel in his designs. There were ample references in his collection where he played with layered volumes to create airy silhouettes and tailored ensembles, that embraced a different facet of femininity, enhanced with belted adornments or rhinestone accessories for a nuanced audacious flair.

Returning to the very concept of the show: travel; the designer captured the essence of a contemporary travel-ready wardrobe. Oversized cuffs and baggy trench coats were strongly suggestive of, perhaps, a new off-duty model look. The corsets in this collection get more relaxed with oversized hooks; envision it like this: from office straight to the airport. Every detail—from the fabric’s drape to its creases—were meticulously considered.

Featuring airy, multi-layered chiffon skirts designed to maintain their flowy silhouette without wrinkles even when packed in a suitcase. Nicolas’ refined approach is proof enough of his innovative styling which empowers. By combining t-shirts with bulbous blouses and pairing them with athletic fabrics, he gives us endless layering possibilities. The show was attended by the international celebrities, editors, and those with genuine influence: Ana de Armas, Zendaya, Jaden Smith, Jennifer Connelly, Phoebe Dynevor, Cate Blanchett, and more.
