No one does fashion quite like the French. And the ‘French girl’ aesthetic is proof. It garnered quite a following on social media—serving up inspiration that ranges from make-up and hairstyle, to clothes! And no matter what, we’re never going to stop wanting to dress like a chic Parisian woman running from the Louvre to a dinner date and to the farmers market the next morning. With spring and summer rounding the corner, it’s time to decide which aesthetic to lean into for the warmer months of 2024. The French girl style was the obvious choice for us. Below are some of our favourite spring fashion trends, straight from the streets of Paris—bearing the French girl seal of approval.
Bermuda shorts
If the pantless trend strikes fear in your heart, I come bearing good news—Bermuda shorts are the next big thing this spring! The masculine effect of longer-than-usual shorts is chic and ever so slightly unconventional. Take your pick from tailored, denim, cotton, or leather versions to add some chic factor to your SS24 wardrobe.
Polite Society Easy Boxers, ₹2,900
Ranna Gill Olive Shorts, ₹11,800
Fringe
Cowboy chic is back (perhaps we can thank Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter album for this). Playful fringing adds a dose of fun to any look. It can be as subtle as a detail on a clutch bag or as overt as a miniskirt with a floor-sweeping fringe overlay—there’s so much room to play around.
Bottega Veneta Fringe Leather Pouch, ₹2,52,000
Karen Millen Bandage Knit Fringe Tiered Midi Dress, ₹19,500
Polka dots
It’s officially time for leopard print to slink back off into the jungle—the 1950s polka-dot print is about to make its presence felt in a big way. The retro print was all over the spring 2024 runways, adorning everything from minidresses to tights, and even shoes.
Alaia Poplin Shirt with Large Polka Dots, price on request
Lovebirds Studio Holiday Dress, ₹17,900
Ballet flats
Following a revival fuelled by it-girls Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, ballet flats are going nowhere for spring 2024. Expect to see French girls wearing their embellished and monogrammed versions all summer long!
Tod’s Ballerinas in Leather, ₹58,000
Miu Miu Satin Ballerinas, ₹67,000
Florals
Well, it wouldn't quite be spring without some florals, would it? Though not quite groundbreaking, floral motifs certainly popped up on the SS24 runways in Paris, and French girls have well and truly taken note.
Pero Handwoven Cotton-Silk Embroidered Scallop Jacket, ₹4,20,000
AK-OK Floral Printed Bomber, ₹38,000
Low-rise jeans
Making a comeback as part of the Y2K revival wave, and spied on the runway at Miu Miu and Schiaparelli for spring 2024, low-rise jeans are trending again. Ask Bella Hadid or just about any other supermodel.
Diesel 1969 D-Ebbey Blue Flare Low Rise Clean Jeans, ₹17,999
Acne Studios Loose Fit Low Rise Jeans, ₹35,000
