All eyes are on India. In the past one year, a top luxury fashion house organised its show here, a Mumbai-based restaurant secured the 16th spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, and recently, two Delhi-based pizzerias made it to the highly coveted ‘50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific 2023' list released by Top-50 Pizza, an Italian online publication.
Gurugram's Da Susy, owned by chef Susanna Di Cosimo, secured the 44th spot on the list. Born in Naples, Italy, Chef Di Cosimo moved to India in 2013 and ran a successful inbound tour operator. However, when the pandemic hit and travel was closed, she decided to reignite her passion for Italian cooking. Thus was born, Pizzeria Da Susy. Their menu features classic Italian Neopolitan pizzas but has also made way for what the restaurant calls ‘special pizzas’—pizzas with zucchini, pumpkin, and pesto sauces instead of red sauce. They also offer double-baked pizza sandwiches, sides, and an array of fresh salads.
The 47th position on the list was secured by Leo’s Pizzeria, which has two outlets, in Vasant Vihar and Amar Colony, and a third one on the way in Ghitorni. Started by Amol Kumar, they serve authentic Italian pizza slices that are warm, cheesy, and graciously decorated with toppings. Their restaurants are cosy and quaint with homely décor, think Polaroids-lined walls. This place has become a favourite among locals, and we know why. You can sip a glass of wine or have a bottle of beer while gorging on delicious pizzas.
