Galeries Lafayette, the iconic 125-year-old department store, which is home to hundreds of couture and ready-to-wear brands, in Paris is a must-visit. Situated in one of the most elegant parts of Paris, Boulevard Haussmann, the store is an architectural marvel and offers breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower and the Opéra Garnier. With over 290 stores around the world, Galeries Lafayette has grown to be Europe’s largest departmental store chain and is now all set to make history as the first European department store to open doors in India.
On Thursday, Galeries Lafayette announced their partnership with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) to open two stores—in Mumbai and Delhi—as well as a dedicated e-commerce platform for all you online shoppers. The first store of 90,000 sq. ft will be set up in Fort, the cultural heart of Mumbai, in 2024. This will be closely followed by the opening of a 65,000 sq. ft store in the DLF Emporio mall in New Delhi.
In a statement, Galeries Lafayette's CEO, Nicolas Houzé, said, "We are proud to expand our international footprint in the heart of a market as prestigious and refined as India, where we believe Galeries Lafayette can benefit from strong growth potential.”
The two flagship stores will reportedly be home to over 200 local and luxury brands across fashion, lifestyle, and food. Since ABFRL is one of the country’s largest retailers of international brands, we can expect to see a few names like Ted Baker, Ralph Lauren, and American Eagle among others at the new Galeries Lafayette stores.
