9 trends from the resort and early spring 2025 collections

This season’s resort collections took place against a wide range of backdrops, from Louis Vuitton’s show in a Barcelona park designed by architect Antoni Gaudí to Balenciaga’s runway against the cityscape of Shanghai. Dior held a presentation amid the rolling hills of Scotland, while Chanel took place in the seaside French town of Marseille.

And the ideas presented were just as diverse. Alessandro Michele dropped his debut collection for Valentino in the middle of men’s Fashion Week in Milan, showcasing a colorful mix of fabrics, prints, textures, ribbons, and ruffles that felt maximalist in the best possible way. Chemena Kamali offered the perfect take on bohemian style along with a high-waisted jean at Chloé. Sabato De Sarno went fringe-y with denim at Gucci.

There were ’60s mod minis at both Gucci and Prada, and a plentitude of plaid at Dior and Rabanne. Olympic fever was coming on strong in the sporty vibes at Wales Bonner and the varsity stripes at Coperni, and the Row made the strongest argument yet for the ’90s trend of wearing a lace-trimmed slip over pants. ’60s mod

It’s all about the minis and sheath dresses for a swinging ’60s look, with pops of pastel throughout.

Fringe benefits

This season, designers elevated the idea of fringe, with pieces that felt effortless for daytime dressing yet could move seamlessly into night.

Mad for plaid

Plaid is back in a big way, and the Resort and Spring 2025 collections offered unexpected color combinations and styling points—everything from mix-and-match pattern play to head-to-toe checks.

Denim forever

Denim was a designer favorite this season, offered in all silhouettes in every shade of blue.

Utilitarian spirit

The cargo jacket, skirt, and pants led the charge this season, especially in the form of functional separates with unexpected pocket placements.

Wedding vibes

Head-to-toe lace, crochet, and eyelet in tonal creams and whites floated across the runway aisles with ease.

Why not try a dress over pants?

A new layered styling point offered a dynamic take on dresses worn over pants.

Good sport

Rugby shirts, ringer tees, and hoodies were on the winning team this season.

Optic black and white
