Athiya Shetty on her beauty regime, her Holy Grail products, and self-care practices she relies on

All it takes is one look at Athiya Shetty's Instagram handle to know that she takes her skincare routine very seriously. We've taken absolutely no time to fall in love with her girl-next-door looks and appreciate the glow on her face that refuses to go away. In conversation with Bazaar India, the actor, who is the brand face for Laneige in India speaks about her secret for flawless skin, her beauty idols, her go-to make-up look, and much more.  

Harper’s Bazaar: Tell us your secret for flawless skin. Is it high-quality ingredients, ample sleep, or treatments... 

Athiya Shetty: I think it is a healthy mix of all of the above. It is difficult to credit just one thing for healthy skin, one needs to strike a balance. I ensure I get eight hours of sleep and follow it up by eating balanced healthy meals.

HB: What about professional treatments—do you have any favourites? 

AS: More than professional treatments, I love DIY skin recipes, which have been passed on to me by my mother. These home remedies have stood the test of time and work like magic on my skin.

HB: Who are your beauty idols? 

AS: My mother and my grandmothers...everything I know about beauty and self-care, I have learnt it from them.

HB: When was the last time you did your own make-up? 

AS: A few days ago! It was a look heavy on cheek tint and highlighter. And while I generally don’t reach out for my eyeliner, I aced the winged eyeliner look.

HB: And what’s your go-to make-up look? 

AS: I believe less is more when it comes to make-up. And personally, I prefer giving more importance to skincare over make-up. I ensure my skin is prepped well, and I fill in my brows and use a tint on my cheeks.

HB: Are you a fan of Korean beauty? 

AS: I am...and Laneige is one of my favourite Korean skincare brands. I have been obsessed with Korean skincare videos, trying to follow their skincare regime and application techniques.

HB: Congratulations on being Laneige’s brand face in India. 

AS: I am excited to be associated with Laneige. It is a brand that I love and admire. And the association came about because I love their products, especially the Water Sleeping Mask, which is a staple in my skincare routine. So, when they approached me to be the face of their brand in India, it was an easy decision because I believe in the brand’s philosophy of natural and sustainable beauty. I love Laneige because of their innovative products, formulated to provide intense hydration and nourishment to the skin. The brand’s focus on incorporating natural ingredients and cutting-edge technology to create skincare that delivers visible results is what sets them apart. Laneige’s philosophy of keeping the skin healthy and hydrated is something that resonates with me and I believe it is essential for achieving healthy, radiant skin.

HB: Tell us about your Holy Grail products. 

AS: I have very dry skin, so I prefer overnight treatments that help rejuvenate my skin while I sleep. Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask works very well for my skin—it strengthens the skin’s barrier and I wake up to nourished, radiant skin. The Lip Sleeping Mask is another one of my favourite products as it keeps my chapped, dry lips hydrated throughout the day and their Radian-C Cream is also part of my daily routine.

HB: Are there any self-care practices that you follow? 

AS: I am extremely diligent about my self-care routine. I believe in small wins, so I start my day by filling in my gratitude journal. In the evening, I light a candle and listen to calming music and follow it up with my PM skincare routine.

HB: What’s the best beauty advice you have ever received? 

AS: That true beauty is not limited to external appearances...it originates from within, and is about feeling comfortable and self-assured in one’s own skin. Beauty, for me, is not solely about physical attributes, it encompasses qualities such as empathy, integrity, and taking actions to make the world a better place, filled with joy and kindness.
