Harper's Bazaar India

Autumn may be well on its way out, but it's never too late to indulge in some delicious pumpkin menus. With the cooler months rolling in, pumpkin is the perfect dish that offers both warmth and comfort in every bite. Be it a creamy pumpkin soup or an indulgent pumpkin tart with a twist, the city's eateries are serving up delicious pumpkin-inspired creations and we have rounded up five of our favourites!

Pumpkin ‘Pulissery’ and Pumpkin Halwa Tart at The Bombay Canteen

The Bombay Canteen’s pumpkin ‘pulissery’ is a twist on the classic Kerala dish. Unlike the traditional recipe, which uses a coconut curry base, this recipe uses roasted pumpkin layered with shallots in a slow-cooked terrine, and topped with a furikake of garlic, sesame, poppy seeds, and curry leaves. It is then finished with a coconut milk whey stew, lime leaf, and curry leaf oil, and served with a khara bun—an aromatic cruffin dusted with curry leaf spice for a perfect balance of flavours and textures. The menu also includes an indulgent pumpkin halwa tart—a yellow pumpkin halwa prepared with khoya and milk, filled in a rich, buttery pastry and topped with a panjiri crumble made with pumpkin seeds, mahua, and sugar. The dessert is served with a side of peach sorbet.

Kaddu Khatta Meetha at Bombay Sweet Shop

Bombay Sweet Shop opened its new outlet in Kala Ghoda with a lot to offer on the menu. Among them is a dish that is a unique take on kaddu khatta meetha, a semi-dry pumpkin curry from North India, particularly Uttar Pradesh. True to its name, this dish combines a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and mild spiciness. The Bombay Sweet Shop version features a sweet and sour pumpkin mash, paired with flaky Bedmi puris and roasted pumpkin seeds.

Pumpkin Spice Pastry at Starbucks

The pumpkin spice latte season is back at Starbucks, and this year, it has gotten a whole lot better. The popular chain has introduced a range of options, in the popular drink, to choose from—the classic latte, a refreshing iced latte, a creamy frappuccino, a smooth cold brew, and best of all, a pumpkin spice pastry for the ultimate sweet pairing. Its the perfect way to enjoy the season’s flavours, if you ask us!
