Nails vs the state of laziness—how to always be well-manicured

Let your nails do the talking!

Harper's Bazaar India

Like many women, I love well-manicured nails—the kind that are filed well and have an elegant nail colour enhancing their look. But, for the longest time, I have struggled to be that woman who keeps her nails looking like they are just out of a nail salon. I hated spending too much time on doing my fingertips but I also absolutely despised the look of chipped nail polish. As I grew older and realised how maintaining well-manicured nails can greatly enhance your overall appearance, I started paying more attention to them.

I am still too lazy to do it by myself but I ensure my salon visits are timely. If you’re a busy (and lazy) woman like me, who wants it all, this article will help make sure you remain well-manicured, too.

Establish a routine

Creating a regular nail care routine is essential for keeping your nails in top shape. Set aside specific times for trimming, shaping, and grooming your nails. Consistency is key, so make it a habit to care for your nails, at least once a week.

Invest in quality tools and products

Having the right tools and products on hand can make a significant difference in your nail care routine. Invest in a good-quality nail filer, cuticle pusher, clippers, and a sturdy buffer. Additionally, opt for nail polishes and treatments that are nourishing and long-lasting.

Choose low-maintenance nail styles

Opt for nail styles that are easy to maintain and require minimal touch-ups. Neutral or light-coloured nail polishes are more forgiving when they chips, allowing you to maintain a polished look even if you're short on time.

Practice prevention

Preventive measures can save you time and effort in the long run. Wear gloves when doing household chores or gardening to protect your nails from damage. Applying a clear base coat before applying nail polish can help prevent staining and increase the longevity of your manicure.

Set achievable goals

If you're prone to laziness, set achievable goals for your nail care routine. Start with simple steps, such as keeping your nails clean and trimmed, and gradually incorporate additional tasks over time. This approach can make the process feel less overwhelming and more manageable.

Make it a relaxing ritual

Transforming your nail care routine into a relaxing ritual can make it more enjoyable and less like a chore. Light a scented candle, play soothing music, or soak your hands in warm water before beginning your nail care routine. Creating a calming atmosphere can motivate you to take better care of your nails.

Build a consistent relationship with your nail expert

If you're not the DIY kind, have a go-to salon. You can make sure you go on alternate weekends or at a time interval that best suits you. Invest in long-lasting manicures such as gel or acrylic. If you're lazy to hit the salon, find a nail artist who can come home. Let them know how often you'd like to get your nails done, and let them pester you going forward!
