The boldest fashion statements from Lakmé Fashion Week 2024

From Pero to Payal Singhal and from Tarun Tahiliani to Rohit Bal, these were the hottest shows this season.

Harper's Bazaar India

Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI 2024, one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year, brought New Delhi to life with its unforgettable runway moments. The show was a testament to Indian designers pushing the boundaries of creativity, as they unveiled bold, daring looks that set the tone for the upcoming season.

Among the standout moments was the highly-anticipated PERO x Hello Kitty collaboration that seamlessly fused playful nostalgia with modern streetwear. Payal Singhal brought the best kind of heritage glamour to her Indian festive collection, while, in stark, stunning contrast, Huemn showcased distressed textured pieces. Tarun Tahiliani offered a first look at his luxury prêt line, OTT, and Rohit Bal brought the “grand” to the “Grand Finale”. But the excitement didn’t stop there—designers explored new materials, experimented with creative layering, and embraced sustainability with their collections. Here are some of the most unforgettable fashion moments from the LFW 2024.

Péro x Hello Kitty

For Spring/Summer 2025, Hello Kitty and Péro joined forces to create a collection that was a tribute to the joy and innocence of childhood. Sweeter than Hello Kitty’s favourite apples, Aneeth Arora's Péro showcased an array of playful designs inspired by Hello Kitty’s everyday favourites, including her iconic bow, vibrant cherries, luscious strawberries, and dreamy cupcakes. Bursting with the vibrant colours of Japanese Harajuku street style—think bright pinks, reds, blues, and sunny yellows—all expertly woven into shirts, trousers, dresses, skirts, and jackets, this collection was a joy to watch coming down the runway.

Antar Agni

Antar Agni’s latest collection was showcased on Sustainable Fashion Day to mark the 10th anniversary of the brand, creating quite a buzz on the runway. Titled “Two Faced”, the collection showcased the extremes the Antar Agni label is renowned for. It presented a captivating interplay of contrasts, blending structure with fluidity, minimalism with ornamentation, and tradition with innovation. This line is designed to resonate with the various facets of an individual's psyche.

Abraham & Thakore

Shefali Shah opened the Abraham & Thakore Spring-Summer ’25 show, donning a striking jet-black sari made from garbage bags and discarded CDs. Their “Finding Beauty” collection, presented on Sustainability Fashion Day, reimagined waste as wearable art. Models showcased intricate silhouettes with embroidery crafted from unspooled cassette tapes and recovered film, blending fashion with an environmental message. The industrial-themed soundtrack added a haunting, dystopian feel to the show.

Payal Singhal

Payal Singhal's “Tazhib” collection for Festive Winter ’24 offered a nostalgic yet fresh perspective on iconic silhouettes in a spectacular show with song and dance. Opening the 25-year celebratory show for the label, actor Shriya Saran dazzled the runway with her Kathak moves, while American YouTuber Vidya Vox enthralled the audience with her live performance. The designs featured deconstructed Anarkalis, corset cholis, and luxurious fabrics like organza and velvet, all adorned with traditional embroidery techniques in gorgeous ivories, silvers, and elevated neutrals. The collection, meaning "the art of gilding" in Arabic, was beautifully reflected in the shimmering embellishments throughout.

Huemn

HUEMN’s latest collection featured standout elements like mud textures created through seven handmade processes, making each piece unique. The collection elevated denim with intricate craftsmanship and challenged norms by incorporating unexpected objects like garbage bags in the garments.

Tarun Tahiliani

Tarun Tahiliani introduced his much-awaited luxury prêt brand, OTT, at Lakme Fashion Week. Set to launch officially in November, OTT marks a new chapter in Tahiliani's design philosophy, merging his signature draping techniques with modern silhouettes. The collection reinterprets classic Indian attire for the contemporary consumer, blending tradition with modernity, and emphasizes wearability and inclusivity with sizes up to XL. Inspired by urban landscapes, the palette features soft hues and elegant detailing, making luxury fashion more approachable while highlighting sustainability and versatility.

Rohit Bal

The House of Lakmē Grand Finale at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI concluded with a stunning showcase by Rohit Bal, featuring his collection "Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe”. The collection celebrated nature's beauty and elegance, with flowing fabrics, intricate embroidery, and vibrant hues with floral motifs. Ananya Panday closed the show as the showstopper, dressed in what proved to be a fitting tribute to the collection’s elegance and charm.
