Sonam Kapoor is the new face of Dior

The iconic French luxury fashion house just revealed the actor as its latest brand ambassador.

It was only weeks ago that Sonam Kapoor made a dazzling appearance at the Dior Spring Summer 2025 show at Paris Fashion Week. Now, in a move that comes as no surprise to those familiar with Kapoor's longstanding relationship with the French couture house, Dior has officially named her as the brand ambassador.

The French couture maison has always looked to India for inspiration, drawing frequently from its heritage and artistry, as can be seen from the intricate embroidery work historically outsourced to Indian artisans to the fabrics, motifs, and craftsmanship on display in several collections. However, this collaboration signals a shift in the perception of India itself—an acknowledgement of Dior’s deepening connection to the country, not just as inspiration but as a pivotal growing luxury market.

And who better than Kapoor to partner with in this journey? The actor’s formal induction as the brand ambassador for creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collections for Dior is fitting. Having religiously attended several shows by the monumental fashion house, at Dior’s spectacular pre-fall collection 2023 show at the Gateway of India held to spotlight Indian craftsmanship, Kapoor reportedly teared up in the front row.

According to reports, in its statement making the announcement, Dior said, “A multitalented personality, the actress, producer and fashion icon henceforth embodies the audacity, grace and elegance of Dior style, a femininity constantly reinvented. More than ever, this unique alliance celebrates the powerful cultural ties that have united Dior and India since the very beginning of the house”.

Over the years, Kapoor has made an indelible mark on Indian fashion, both internationally and closer to home—with her many magazine covers, runway walks, and public appearances, all cementing her reputation as a fashion icon. This, then, is more than an endorsement.

In her own words, “It’s an honour to be a part of Dior’s story as they continue to push the boundaries and redefine creativity and elegance in the world of fashion. Each of their collections present a truly unique vision with intricate craftsmanship, celebrating heritage in a way that deeply resonates with my own sense of style.” She went on to add, “This partnership is another step in the beautiful cultural synergy that has connected Dior and India over the years, and I’m excited to see where we take it next.”

For India, this has been a remarkable year in fashion, with Indian designers showing their work on the global stage during fashion weeks, and the rising influence of Bollywood in global fashion, not just in India but also with the diaspora. As Kapoor takes on her prestigious role at Dior, she joins the growing list of Indian ambassadors of global luxury fashion houses, like Priyanka Chopra for Bulgari, Deepika Padukone for Louis Vuitton, and Alia Bhatt for Gucci among others.
