A FEAST FOR THE EYES

Two distinguished fashion labels—Ekaya Banaras and 431-88—have joined forces to create a collection that seamlessly merges traditional Banarasi textiles with modern, fluid silhouettes. This collaboration brings together two trailblazing women whose distinct styles share a passion for creativity and self-expression. Celebrating and reinventing the Banarasi sari, the collection showcases its timeless elegance and versatility, catering to today’s fashion-forward audience.

FASHION COMES TO LOUVRE

For the first time, the Louvre will host a fashion exhibition next year, showcasing German designer Karl Lagerfeld’s creations for Chanel, revealing a dialogue between historical art and modern fashion. From January 24 to July 21, 2025, the exhibit will feature 65 ensembles and 30 accessories displayed alongside the Louvre’s decorative arts. Without its own fashion collection, the Louvre will borrow pieces to explore how its holdings shape contemporary design.

A GLAMOROUS AFFAIR

The Aditya Birla Group has forayed into the jewellery market with its in-house brand Indriya that aims to blend tradition with modern flair. Launched by Kumar Mangalam Birla, Indriya eyes to be among India’s top three jewellery retailers in five years. With a `5,000 crore investment, the brand offers everything—from daily wear to bridal pieces. The label combines ancient techniques with contemporary designs that celebrate artistry.

SUGAR, SPICE, AND EVERYTHING NICE!

Victoria Beckham is all set to star in a new Netflix documentary series that traces her evolution from a Spice Girl to the creative force behind her fashion and beauty empire. Following the success of the Beckham docuseries— which explored David Beckham’s career and personal life—this new series promises deeper insights into the family, featuring rare archival footage and personal stories.

WEAVING A LEGACY

Veteran designer Gaurang Shah took Bazaar India on a journey through his looms in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, and Injapur, Telangana. The designer, who has recently recreated Raja Ravi Varma paintings on the iconic 7 yards, is set to revive Indian and South Asian textiles with a laser-sharp eye for innovation. It was exquisite to witness the making of pieces that would take at least a year to be completed. From Patan Patola to Parsi Gara, from Jamdani to Jacquard, and the continuation of his latest collection, dubbed ‘Gulal’, that told a magnificent handloom story with the colour pink: Shah is building a legacy that uplifts and reimagines craftsmanship. He is educating and re-introducing the handloom industry to a new generation of craftspeople with his ever-expanding network of looms, including the ones he is helping his weavers install at their homes. Among the 300-odd weavers who work with Shah, most are women from rural and remote areas, who have found a way to make a living for themselves.

AVANT-GARDE EXCELLENCE

Unconventional—a groundbreaking multi design retail space in Kolkata—is showcasing works by Indian designers, including Almost Gods, Polite Society, and Huemn, among others. As Kolkata’s first concept store of this kind, it redefines fashion with a futuristic, gender-neutral, and individualistic approach. Blurring traditional boundaries, Unconventional fosters a cultural shift through its exclusive, yet inclusive, design identity, making it a hub for innovative and interactive fashion.
