5 big fashion moments OTT gifted us in 2023 (so far)

Quiet luxury, retro fashion, dramatic designs, you will find it all.

Harper's Bazaar India

Eight months into this year and we have already seen hit after hit on our tv screens—Dahaad, Citadel, Jubilee, The Bear—the list is endless. While the plot and filmography in each show was stellar in it's own way, some caught our eye when it came to the costumes and fashion. Here's a look at our top five picks.

The Night Manager

Yes, Aditya Roy Kapoor who plays Shaan Sengupta, oozes style and suave in his perfectly fitted suits, but one cannot help but pause every time Sobhita Dhulipala comes on screen. Although she is playing a supporting character, her style has stolen the show. This ivory corset gown with pearls dripping down the sides, paired with a contrasting red lipstick, has stunned a million viewers.

And Just Like that…

For a very long time, on-screen glamour meant Sex and the City to a lot of us. But turns out, its sequel, And Just Like That... is just as high on fashion. While Carrie Bradshaw may be our in-house fashion guru, the outfit that took our breath away had to be the dramatic red Valentino gown with the elaborate headpiece worn by Lisa. As she rightfully says, "It’s not crazy, it’s Valentino."

Jubilee

Set in 1947 Bombay, the series shows the effect of Partition on the Indian film industry through the tales of actors and films that dominated the screen during that period. Costume designer Shruti Kapoor encapsulated the old-world charm and beauty in each character's outfits. The highlight, however, is Sumitra Devi, played by Aditi Rao Hydari. As the wife and partner of a film studio owner, Sumitra Devi commands your attention every time she graces the screen. For the most part, she wears the most stunning sarees, with an occasional gown or pant-shirt combo, and each one of them looks more gorgeous than the other.

Succession

The style quotient on this show may not be as high as for the other shows in the list, but there is a reason why it has made it to this list. Succession epitomises "quiet luxury". Costume designer Michelle Matland has curated each character's outfits so perfectly that not once do their clothes overpower their personalities. Instead, they complement it. Among all the well-tailored suits, Siobhan 'Shiv' Roy's costumes stand out the most. She oozes power and reminds us of Katherine Hepburn, especially in her paper bag-styled pants, paired with a simple, solid-coloured turtleneck and thin gold chains. Less really is more.

The Idol

Controversial in content and controversial in fashion, it definitely makes you question, how little is too little? Lilly Rose Depp aced her role as the messy pop princess, and so did her wardrobe. Among the sheer gowns, music video looks, and tennis skirts, this poolside ensemble really left a mark. Head to toe in Saint Laurent, Jocelyn lounges by the pool as she plays her new hit for the producers.
