The French President and Mayor of Rome are fighting over ‘Emily In Paris'

Here’s everything you need to know.

It looks like Emily Cooper from Emily in Paris has carried the drama with her to Rome—first on-screen and now off-screen. In a recent interview, French President Emmanuel Macron confessed that he will “fight” to keep Emily in Paris, for “Emily in Paris in Rome” doesn’t make sense to him. In the interview, he was asked about the show—which incidentally also featured his wife, Brigitte Macron, this season. “Emily in Paris is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country. For my own business, it’s a very good initiative,” he said. Later, Macron added how he wasn’t all too ecstatic about Emily leaving Paris and moving to Rome.

It would've been nice if the whole thing had ended there. But, of course, it did not, and so began the shenanigans. Roberto Gualtieri, the mayor of Rome, had something to say. “Take it easy, Emmanuel Macron. Emily in Rome is perfect,” Gualtieri tweeted. Later, he also added, “Doesn’t President Macron have more pressing matters to worry about?”

He would like to believe or at least hope, he said, that Macron was joking as he should know that a production company like Netflix does not take orders from heads of state or make decisions based on political pressure. He continued in his statement, “We see Emily’s move to Rome as a confirmation that our city is becoming more and more important, and we are quite relaxed about Netflix production decisions. They know what they are doing. To be honest, we think Mr Macron should just relax."

Clearly, neither of them wants to let go of Emily Cooper. However, the show's creator clarified in a previous interview that even if Emily’s presence expands to Rome, it doesn’t mean she will not be in Paris.

Whatever happens, we’re eager to see what drama unfolds for the show next. Although season four offered a somewhat happy ending for the characters, Emily in Paris is definitely returning, and we can only hope that it continues to get even more exciting!
