Gear up for the second season of Made in Heaven, which is set to release only a few days from today; Heart of Stone, a Gal Gadot-starrer which will feature Alia Bhatt; a docu-series on AP Dhillon; and a lot more. Here are our top picks of the August releases.

Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop

This Netflix Original (limited docuseries), that spans four episodes, delves deep into the instrumental role women have in hip hop. It begins with how woman forayed into the genre five decades ago, made their mark, and continue to break new ground in the world of music. Be it documenting icons or getting to know current trendsetters who top the music charts day after day, the series shows hip hop in a different light—it ceased being a musical genre and came to be an agent of change with powerful lyrics that throw light on the many social issues prevalent around us. The docuseries features Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Rah Digga, Latto, Tierra Whack, Saweetie, Coi Leray, Sha Rock, Remy Ma, Yo-Yo, Roxanne Shante, Chika, Rapsody, and Kash Doll.

Made in Heaven: Season 2


One of the most-awaited shows of the year, Made in Heaven season 2 is just a few days from its release and we just cannot wait. With the new season, the International Emmy-nominated series will delve deeper into the lives of its characters who navigate the complexities of organising and celebrating marriages while their own lives unfold in unexpected ways. Season 2 will reveal the dichotomy of tradition, modern aspirations, and belief systems set against the canvas of lavish Indian weddings. In addition to Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur in lead roles, the series also stars Jim Sarbh, Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Vijay Raaz and some new characters played by Mona Singh, Ishwak Singh, and Trinetra Haldar.

Painkiller

Over the course of six episodes, this Netflix Original (limited series drama) goes into the origin story and aftermath of America’s opioid crisis. Based on Barry Meier’s 2018 book, Pain Killer and Patrick Radden Keefe’s 2017 article titled 'The Family That Built an Empire of Pain' in The New Yorker, the show brings to light the stories of victims and perpetrators, whose lives changed forever due to OxyContin. It stars Uzo Aduba, Matthew Broderick, Sam Anderson, Taylor Kitsch, Carolina Bartczak, Tyler Ritter, John Ales, Ron Lea, Ana Cruz Kayne, West Duchovny, Jack Mulhern, and John Murphy.

Heart of Stone 

Ever since fans got a glimpse of the trailer, they have been counting down the days to see Alia Bhatt in this spy thriller that stars Gal Gadot in the lead. The film revolves around Agent Rachel Stone (Gadot), an intelligence operative doing her best to stop a hacker (Bhatt) from stealing a weapon that stands between peace and war. It promises to take us into the world of spies and their missions which are peppered with daring stunts and high-octane action sequences.

AP Dhillon: First of a Kind

The four-part docuseries delves into the life of Amritpal Singh Dhillon, fondly known as AP Dhillon, globally. Through exclusive access, the series follows his remarkable journey from Gurdaspur, a small village in Punjab, to the mountains of British Columbia, Canada, where he has become a renowned global music sensation. Through a combination of Dhillon’s personal accounts and interviews with his close-knit circle of family and friends, this series offers a genuine insight into Dhillon’s life, motivations, and journey, and follows him on a global expedition, both on and off the stage.

Guns & Gulaabs

In a sleepy town, a simple-minded mechanic struggles to emerge from his dead gangster father’s shadow to win over the love of his life. An honest officer and devoted family man ends up being a chaos agent, a reluctant cartel heir has an identity crisis, and two teenagers experience their first love and first heartbreak—all the characters see their worlds colliding spectacularly in this first-of-its-kind genre mashup pulp, gangster-comedy. The series features Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, TJ Bhanu, and Gulshan Devaiah
