Tabu, one of the most versatile and celebrated actors in Indian cinema, is all set to make her comeback in Hollywood. According to a report in Variety, the actor will be seen in the upcoming series Dune: Prophecy, a prequel to Dune that released three years ago. The announcement marks Tabu’s return to Hollywood after 12 years—she previously appeared in The Namesake (2006) and Life of Pi (2012). The series' team is yet to announce a release date.
As per the report, the actor will be seen playing the role of the “Strong, intelligent, and alluring, Sister Francesca, (who) leaves a lasting impression in her wake. Once a great love of the Emperor, her return to the palace strains the balance of power in the capital.” Originally commissioned in 2019, under the name Dune: The Sisterhood, the series is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson.
The official logline states, “Set within the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.”
The Dune saga has enjoyed immense success with its two films, collectively grossing over $1.1 billion (₹918 crore) worldwide. Dune: Part Two was released in March this year starring Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Timothée Chalamet. A third instalment of the film is in the works.
Tabu was last seen in Crew, directed by Rajesh A Krishnan. It also starred Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Diljit Dosanjh, Kapil Sharma, Saswata Chatterjee, Rajesh Sharma, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
