Do we really need a reason to snuggle with hot chocolate and watch some of our favourite films?

Harper's Bazaar India

As the holiday season envelopes us in its warm embrace, there is little better than cozying up with some of our favourite Christmas movies for a rewatch. From timeless classics to modern tales of love and laughter, these films are the cinematic equivalent of a warm cup of cocoa by the fireplace. Let's dive into a selection of Christmas movies that promise to fill your holidays with joy and magic.

The holiday, 2006

This one is as heartwarming a tale as it for a cushy Christmas in by your tree, when all you want is a little ray of hope, a little something to say "where you are is great, and the hope of what is to come lingers in the air". As with the two protagonists in the movie, dip into the tale of heartbreak and the possibility that love can be found anywhere, in what may seem the darkest of time. And who knows you might find your own Jack Black and Jude Law! Get ready to spark the hopeless romantic in you. After all, as the Gen Z's say, being a little delulu may be your resolution for the coming year.

Four Christmases, 2008

There is nothing Vince Vaughn touches that isn't laugh out loud, but this roll on the floor tale follows a couple as they decide to visit all four of their divorced parents for Christmas should be definite family watch. Who doesn't like the rigmarole of skewed family dynamics!

Jingle all the way, 1996

Follow the day in a father's life as he frantically hunts to find the best toy for his son, too close to Christmas. This one is all about the spirit of Christmas, the excitement that follows, and in its heart of hearts—the length we could go to for the ones we love. Another family favourite to queue this Christmas Eve, especially if you want to hint at a gift you want!

Home alone, 1990

Need we write anything about this Christmas favourite? Remember Kevin McCallister, the young prankster who is accidentally left behind at home while his family leaves for their Christmas holidays? Alone at home, Kevin must defend his house from two bumbling burglars using his wit and imaginative traps. This one is a peak into the essence of childhood ingenuity and the magic  in the air this season.

White Christmas, 1954

Another timeless holiday classic, this one is all about nostalgia, music, and festive charm. The film features two talented song-and-dance duos who join forces to save a failing Vermont inn, all while performing Irving Berlin's memorable songs. Another family favourite, it is a true embodiment of the holiday spirit and a reminder of the joy of giving.

It's a wonderful life, 1946

The magic of black and white could be all the holiday nostalgia you need. And what better way that this cherished masterpiece. The film tells the story of George Bailey, a man who has given up his dreams for the good of his town and faces despair on Christmas Eve, only to be visited by an angel who shows him how different the world would be if he had never been born. Its powerful message of hope, community, and the impact one life can have makes it a profoundly uplifting movie for this season.
