Kelly Rowland—singer, actress, TV producer, and one of the iconic Destiny’s Child members—made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year in a jaw-dropping collaboration with Indian fashion maestro, Anamika Khanna. Hosted by Maison Bose, this photoshoot, captured by the renowned Ellen Von Unwerth, turned the French Riviera into a runway of glamour.
Sporting a chic platinum blonde bob, Rowland looked elegant in an all-black ensemble by Anamika Khanna. She complemented the outfit with fine jewellery from the Indian designer duo, Shruti Sushma that added just the right amount of sparkle to her look.
Ellen Von Unwerth, eminent for her intuitive and artistic approach, directed the shoot in her signature documentary style, capturing a candid Rowland just before her red-carpet appearance. Rowland transitioned into a stunning cream outfit by Anamika Khanna for her final look. “I was blown away by Kelly’s beauty! And while it took a little time to warm up, we had so much fun shooting together and ended up dancing together and becoming friends,” says Unwerth.
Rowland agrees, claiming that the energy in the suite was unmatchable and infectious. “Every shot felt like a celebration.”
According to Rowland, the essence of Cannes was woven into every shot. “Cool, fly, and effortlessly stylish…and Ellen’s creative direction was spot-on, blending the glamour of the festival with a laid-back, natural vibe.” This festival’s blend of bustling streets, glamorous attendees, and palpable excitement provided this shoot. “Cannes brings a unique energy that is a mix of opulence, flair, and effortless cool,” shared Rowland.
Everything in the shoot was a moment to cherish. Take, for instance, the near-mishap with the car pass for the Amfar Gala. During the shoot, Rowland used the pass to fan herself in a playful move, almost leaving it behind in the suite. “Imagine if we had forgotten it and had to walk to the event, in heels!” laughs Unwerth.
As the shoot concluded, the suite buzzed with a sense of accomplishment. Rowland’s make-up, flawlessly executed by Sir John and complemented by Kilian Paris, added the final touch. The collective energy was enhanced by the presence of Hema Bose and Mike Adler, whose creative insights seamlessly integrated into the shoot.
This collaboration was more than just a shoot; it was a celebration of creativity, fashion, and the indomitable spirit of Cannes. “It was wonderful to hear everyone’s creative ideas and see them come to life. The collaborative spirit and the fun we all had together made the experience truly special,” said Kelly.
This dazzling day in Cannes will be remembered as a testament to the magic that happens when style and creativity collide.
