Britney Spears’s life story is headed to the big screen.
The Princess of Pop’s 2023 memoir The Woman in Me will officially be adapted into a film, according to The Hollywood Reporter and Spears herself. Famed director Jon M. Chu—who has helmed blockbusters like Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights, and the upcoming two-part Wicked—will lead the production. Marc Platt (La La Land, Wicked) is also on board to produce.
Spears broke the news to fans on social media, in a quick note expressing her excitement to see her story told the right way.
“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt,” Spears posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). “He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.”
The Woman in Me was one of the buzziest book releases of last year. The memoir went on to sell 2.5 million copies and of course marked the first time Spears detailed for the public the ongoings of the conservatorship she was under for over a decade, as well as formative moments throughout her career, including her relationship with Justin Timberlake, a secret abortion, and dealing with growing up in the spotlight. It’s unclear how involved Spears will be in the production of the forthcoming movie, but it’s safe to say fans will be keeping their eyes peeled to see who’s going to portray her. Known for her magnetic stage presence, intensive choreography, and signature zany personality, Britney Jean Spears will be no easy role to cast.
