The biggest makeup trends of 2023 so far

These last few months of awards and numerous fashion weeks and runway shows have gotten us extremely excited about the makeup trends that will reign in 2023. It’s time to put your full-coverage foundation and powder blush away and opt for a skin tint and a glowy highlighter. It’s going to be the year of bold lips, barely there makeup and makeup that elevates your mood as much as it does your outfit.  

However, if you don’t know where to start, don’t. We scanned through the major events of 2023 to list down a few of the makeup trends that you can expect to see for the rest of the year. 

Red lips   

While not a trend but a staple, red lips have found themselves back on centre stage this year. Bold red lipstick is to the beauty world what the little black dress is to fashion. It’s a classic choice that holds a certain timeless appeal. Throughout this year’s award and fashion season, celebrities used red lipstick to elevate their look. 

Siren eyes   

Siren eyes is the grungy child of the winged eyeliner and smoky eyes. The latest celebrity to wear this look is Alia Bhatt who recently attended the Gucci Cruise 2024 collection in Seoul. You can easily recreate this look for your next night out by making a winged eyeliner and smudging it out slightly with the tip of an angled brush. Don’t forget to do this on the inner and outer corner of your eyes for that crisp siren look. 

Space buns   

Last month luxury giant Dior turned Mumbai’s Gateway of India into a runway to present its Pre-Fall 2023 collection and it was an iconic moment. However, what caught our attention were the mini double buns all the models sported. It’s a hairstyle that is chic, functional, and on point for this season. 

Barely there makeup   

The no-makeup-makeup-look has been a trend for many years now. However, 2023 has seen this trend reach new heights and evolve into ‘barely there makeup’. The beauty world has movies from products that look and feel heavy on the skin to weightless products that blend seamlessly into the skin, leaving a radiant glow behind. Quite obviously now, barely there makeup is probably the biggest trend of 2023. Dopamine makeup   

Think—a heavy dusting of purple blush on your cheeks, or a rainbow of neon pink and orange eyeshadow with a graphic eyeliner. The beauty of dopamine makeup is that there is no right or wrong way to do it, as long as there is a burst of colour involved. No matter what you choose, it will definitely uplift your mood.
