When you’re seated at The Chambers in Taj Mahal, New Delhi, you take in the carefully curated ambience second and the view first. It’s a city like you’ve never seen before. How all of central Delhi could fit into those windows is still a wonder, but you can see the presidential complex on one side, the Humayun’s Tomb on the other, and the best of Lutyens’ Delhi tucked not-so-neatly in between. In the night lights, it’s, for the lack of a non-cliche elucidation, a sight that can easily take anyone by awe.

But The Chambers quickly snaps you out of your reverie and into its abundance in the way of a restaurant, seven meeting rooms, the Chambers Lounge, a whiskey bar, and a cigar lounge. “Luxury is an evolving subject—it is a trend, it is sensorial, it is relative and it can be very personal,” the brand says, and similarly chronicles its design, menu, and offerings.

While The Chambers retains its collection of original works by Indian cartoonist and humourist, RK Laxman that run along the corridors as you walk into what is nothing short of a secret club, artist A Salui has documented the capital’s historical architecture in soft watercolours for nostalgic elegance on all other walls.

Speaking of art, the members of Taj Chambers—which includes the best names across industries—are even dining in it. The dinnerware collection is a mix from French porcelain master Bernardaud, the German ‘Sieger’ collection by Furstenberg, and Revol. The silverware is from Christofle, and the glassware from Riedel. Safe to say, whether cutlery or furniture and fixings, it is all selected keeping old money aesthetics in mind. And it works, everything about time at The Chambers spills opulence—including the Stefano Ricci (the internationally acclaimed Italian luxury lifestyle brand) designed meeting room, and the humidor room attached to the cigar room that showcases some of the best Davidoff collections!

The language carries through in the menu. Focused on health, comfort, and, of course, luxury, it includes international bowl food, western grills, an Asian repertoire, and a north Indian selection; an a la carte high power breakfast, quick bites at the lounge, cheese, and meat boards for whisky flights, paired snack platter for wine by the bottle, curated table d'hôte meals in the meeting rooms, and dark chocolate and almond platters for the cigar room. We recommend the admiral sea bass, water boiled sea bass, soy chilli egg drop, double baked cheddar cheese soufflé, melted leeks, button mushrooms and truffle, grilled mushroom, truffle risotto, roasted root vegetable salad, laksa, and buratta salad. As for the sweet tooth, the dessert selection is innovative, high on visual appeal, and a delight to the palate.

Got you salivating yet? And while this is exclusive to the members of the Chambers and their guests, the chain is also opening up to the public with its special Rendezvous series—a collection of intimate and immersive events, tastefully curated to bring bespoke experiences to the public, with culinary masters creating masterpieces through a five course meal. They’ve had the likes of Rupert Blease, Gary Mehigan, and the most recent Thomas Bühner. We’re already guessing who’s next so we can book our meal. And if you’re wondering  if you’ll have to travel all the way to the capital for this, the answer is a happy no. The Taj Chambers is a part of numerous properties of the chain around the globe, so all you have to find is the closest Taj Hotel to you.
