Is lazy girl fashion the next big thing?

Laid-back chic is in!

Lazy: It’s not necessarily the most flattering label. We’ve been socially confined to viewing it as an insult, but the fashion girlies are redefining this term with their personal style choices. We’ve all been there—standing in front of our wardrobe, trying to find a shirt to match our favourite pants, half of our closet strewn across the bedroom floor. All of a sudden, it’s like nothing in your closet works together. The never-ending conundrum of running late yet trying to make a last-minute outfit work plagues us all. And that’s when it dawned: ‘lazy’ doesn’t have to be derisive. In fact, it’s a word I choose to wear with pride. For the lazy girl, laid-back, comfy, and effortless fashion choices don’t come from a place of ignorance. Rather, it’s because she knows what she wants and manages to achieve it in the easiest way possible.

We’ve put prim and proper style in the rearview. The resurgence of grunge, the love for comfort-first clothing, and the rise of Charli XCX’s brat aesthetic have only bolstered lazy girl style, making it acceptable to look and feel comfortable, even messy! Just because she seems unbothered doesn’t mean she doesn’t care—her lazy look is curated without having to try too hard. Think pyjama pants, sports tops, capsule accessories, and an overall edgy attitude. An amalgamation of fashion and function, the trend comes as a breath of fresh air when everything seems complicated. The easiest way to cop this look is to build a wardrobe filled with pieces that can be paired easily—a balanced symphony of solids and prints, staples and statement. Looking for some inspiration? Just take a look at pop sensation Ke$ha, Hailey Bieber’s street-style looks, or even Rihanna’s casually chic ensembles.

The best part is how this trend can range across fashion verticals, from homegrown and high-street to luxury. For the streetwear kinda gal, there are itty-bitty tops paired with nylon trousers and trendy sneakers. Put a luxe spin on it with oversized blazers and baggy jeans or some sleek shirting styled with penny loafers. Both styles exude elegance and ease! To our benefit, these everyday outfit formulas are almost too easy to replicate. Plus, you probably already have a few of these pieces tucked away in your drawers already.
