6 things you probably didn't know about the newly-opened Jio World Plaza

The best of luxury is in store for you.

At the beginning of this month, luxury seekers in Mumbai found a new destination to flock to with the opening of the Jio World Plaza in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex. This all-new retail destination truly does further the case for India’s mantle as the next big global hub for luxury. There are many things you probably know about it already: that at 7,50,000sq ft, it is India’s largest luxury mall. That it houses Balenciaga’s first-ever store in India. That its launch was a star-studded affair with everyone from Kareena Kapoor Khan and Deepika Padukone, to Alia Bhatt in attendance, and the likes of Ranveer Singh, Karisma Kapoor, and international model Ashley Graham, walking the runway for the opening show. So, we dig into all the fun facts about the mall you probably didn't know.

Mumbai gets many firsts thanks to the mall

Even though only 22 of the 66 brands on their roster are open at the moment, the list boasts many major labels finally setting shop in the Maximum City—think Valentino, Bulgari, Tory Burch, Saint Laurent, Versace, and Tiffany & Co. among others.

The Cartier store pays an ode to Indian design

You don’t need to travel to get your hands on (and in) the Parisian House’s coveted Love and Juste un Clou collections anymore. Designed by renowned French design agency, Moinard Bétaille, Mumbai’s first Cartier boutique brings a slice of Paris to the city, with elements that pay an ode to Indian design—be it with its lavish coffered ceiling or the bespoke wallpaper decked with lotus and paisley motifs.

A limited-edition Gucci bag has been commissioned just for the JWP store

The crowning glory of the 5,800sq ft Gucci store at Jio World Plaza is a limited edition Gucci Padlock Bag that is exclusively only available here. The gold Anaconda leather shoulder bag is inspired by the key lock on vintage suitcases and made to look like a retro treasure box, with the brand’s iconic Bamboo handle and a detachable anaconda and chain shoulder strap.

The mall houses Louis Vuitton’s biggest store in India

The French luxury house was the first global brand to enter India back in 2002. Over two decades later, Mumbai is now home to Louis Vuitton’s fourth and largest store in the country with an expansive 7,500sq.ft space. Some of the Indo-French design elements in the store include a French knot embroidered wooden panel by Rooshad Shroff and a hand block print wallpaper from Maximiliano Modesti.

There are more treats in store for you

Craving the pastas at Armani Café, macaroons from Ladurée or the Instagram-able dessert from EL&N Café? You don’t need to wait for your next holiday to indulge in either, as they are slated to open soon at the mall, though the official dates are yet to be announced.

You can hop over to NMACC from here

The mall is connected to the same complex that houses NMACC—the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre and its many delights and artworks. Make a day out of your visit to the mall, and combine it with some cultural indulgences at the centre, or even a meal at Indian Accent or Amadeo by Oberoi.
