Netflix and chill is a great date idea—you spend time together cosying up, enjoying a nice tub of popcorn with drinks on the side, and watching a good movie. The setting is perfect for a lot to happen, and if not, you may just end up actually watching the movie (you know what we mean)! While you may think lovey-dovey romcoms are an ideal choice for a movie date night in, we suggest giving horror films a chance. There is a different kind of romanticism in holding hands, sitting really close, and being spooked together. Here's every reason why watching horror movies is way better than watching romcoms.

More cuddles: Think about it. If you’re afraid of the scenes in the movie, chances of you wanting to be close to your partner and wrap your arm around them and snuggle are truly high. It’s the perfect way to break the physical tension.

You learn a lot about your partner: Watching a movie together is a great way to know more about your partner. When you watch a horror film together, you understand the things that scare them, how they react to tense situations, and what their fears are. You’d also see how they react to and deal with a scary situation. Are they calm under pressure? Relationships are all about being vulnerable with your loved one and watching a scary movie together is one way to do it.

It helps release dopamine: Having someone next to you when you’re scared is reassuring, and this prods the body to release dopamine, the ‘feel good’ chemical. This feeling of comfort makes us fall in love and feel attracted to a person. Thus every time you watch a scary movie, you are likely to experience the dopamine rush. Come to think of it, being scared together is way more fun than being scared all by yourself.
