'Nobody Wants This' has been renewed for season 2—here’s what we know
The smash Netflix series will return in 2025.
Good news, rom-com fans. One of the sweetest and sexiest shows to come out of 2024 just got renewed for a second season, and yes, I’m talking about Nobody Wants This.
Co-starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, the series follows a brash, sex-positive podcast host named Joanne (Bell) who has a chance encounter with a hip Jewish rabbi named Noah (Brody). The two immediately hit it off, but soon realise that cultural and familial differences might end up standing in the way of what could be a lifelong romance.
Created by Erin Foster, who forged the idea from pieces of her own love story, the series has clearly resonated with audiences, remaining in the top 10 on Netflix ever since its release, and receiving glowing reviews from critics. Now, Netflix has already renewed the show for a second instalment, a mere two weeks after it debuted. Read ahead for everything we know.
Season 2 of Nobody Wants This will arrive in 2025.
There is no official release date for season two yet, but when Netflix announced the renewal of the series, they confirmed that Nobody Wants This will be coming back sooner rather than later: “Stay tuned...to find out how Noah and Joanne grow when Nobody Wants This returns for Season 2 in 2025.”
Two former Girls alums will be joining the creative team.
Season one of Nobody Wants This was run by creator Erin Foster and Craig DiGregorio, but the second chapter will welcome two new showrunners and executive producers: Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both of whom previously worked on the HBO series Girls. Foster will stay on as executive producer, while Nora Silver will join the team as an EP as well.
“I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story,” Foster said in a press release from Netflix. “And to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls… Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic!”
Season 2 will likely explore whether Joanne and Noah can make things work.
While the season one finale left things a bit open-ended, there seemed to be some hope for our central lovebirds, when the last shot showed Noah running into a parking lot to kiss Joanne.
With the announcement of the series renewal, Brody opened up to Netflix Tudum about what he thinks is in store for the pair. With that finale kiss, Brody thought Noah was trying to say: “I put you first. Everything else will work itself out, but I’m saying that you are my priority.”
However, Brody adds, “In the light of day, will he still feel that way? I don’t know. It’s an open question. I think that’s what the show can explore. What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice, but ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it — you don’t have to [lop] off a limb.”
In an interview with TVLine, Bell added, “I kind of feel like they’re both trying to compromise for each other, and then the excitement with a Season 2 is, like, where is it going to go? Are they going to let the factors of the world affect what they feel between them? And isn’t that kind of a topic everybody thinks about once in a while? Like, do I want what I want? Or do I want what society wants for me?”
The planning for season 2 is already underway.
While season one of Nobody Wants This has only been out since September 26, the creative team is already in the process of planning out season 2.
Foster teased their brainstorms in a pair of Instagram stories—one of which saw her sitting next to new showrunner Konner. “Cooking up some fun ideas for season 2,” Foster wrote over a photo of the two of them smiling.
Meanwhile, she followed up with another shot that saw a bunch of the creative team gathered around a laptop. “If you knew what we were looking at 👀,” Foster teased on the slide. Let’s hope it’s something juicy for Joanne and Noah.
