Zendaya's new bob is all things cool and chic. Here's how you can achieve the look.
Chop, chop, chop.
Zendaya is a full-fledged hairstyle chameleon, transforming off-stage as seamlessly as she does when playing a role on screens. Her latest look we’re enamoured with? A soft-textured short bob, which the actress debuted at the Euphoria FYC event in LA in December 2022.
Gathering alongside her co-stars Maude Apatow, Hunter Schafer and Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya oozed sophistication with her elegant Schiaparelli Fall 2021 look featuring a black short sleeve top with a printed pencil skirt, accessorised with sleek Christian Louboutin patent-leather pumps. The cropped, side-swept bob injected some freshness into the look, saving it from reading too prim or polished.
Bobs have been one of the standout hairstyles of 2022, with 'the boyfriend bob' being our favourite version. Like Zendaya's, this specific cut has a bluntness at the ends, and is styled with volume for a look that's both effortlessly cool and genuinely low maintenance.
With this cut, you can embrace your natural texture and let the hair air-dry, stylist Andreas Wild of London’s Larry King hair salon tells us. “Use some of the Larry King Hair Care My Nanna’s Mousse just to give it that texture, and let it dry naturally,” he says. Then, use some finishing cream to control any unwanted fluff, while embracing its imperfection.
Alternatively, for a slightly more 'done', while relaxed, finish—apply a volumising product before blow-drying the hair straight, then use a tool like the Dyson Airwrap to craft the bob into large, loose waves, working away from the face (a la Zendaya).
Indeed, a bob like Zendaya's is deceptively versatile. Whether styled with one's natural texture, straight and smooth, slicked back with wet-look shine, or flicked out at the ends (like Apatow's execution of hers at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards, below)—possibilities are plentiful.
