The Ambani pre-wedding festivities proved that soft glam makeup is the biggest celeb-approved trend

In the last few days, our social media accounts have been taken over by the glitz and the glamour of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's pre-wedding festivities. From Merchant in an iconic Atelier Versace gown to Rihanna's fiery performance, we've had to take a beat to pick our jaws off the floor because these celebrations have redefined the term 'big fat Indian weddings'. The events that spread across three days featured a guestlist that could put an award show to shame. In attendance were Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Kiara Advani, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Ivanka Trump and so on. 

As we scrolled through the images, trying to live vicariously through our favourite celebrities, we couldn't help but notice there was something a lot of them had in common—their makeup. Stars like Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and many more chose soft glam as their go-to look. Now, this is very interesting for two reasons—it proves that soft glam retains its podium position in beauty trends and has reinvented traditional wedding guest makeup. 

Soft glam is a cult-favourite beauty trend because it strikes the balance between the no-makeup look and a full face of shimmering glam. It is more subtle and blended, using no heavy coverage products. The characteristics of the soft glam look lie in moisturised, glowing skin, no heavy full-coverage products for that coveted second-skin like finish, diffused eyeshadow (with maybe some kohl lining), draped blush, liquid ethereal-looking highlighter and a neutral lip. It's a makeup look that seems like it is effortless enhancing your features.
