Monsoon-proof your make-up with these simple hacks
The key lies in your product selection!
While we may refrain from generalising, it’s safe to say that make-up enthusiasts don’t always get along with the monsoon season. It has something to do with bleeding mascaras and lipsticks vanishing within the hour. And even if by some stroke of luck you manage to keep your make-up intact throughout the day, you still have to combat the humidity that is making your foundation appear cakey and your skin shiny (not in a good way).
Don’t fret, like always, we’re here to be your make-up Yoda. We’ve listed down five simple tips you can use in your everyday routine to monsoon-proof your make-up. The key lies in your product selection.
Opt for cream-based make-up
The first rule of applying make-up during the monsoon season is to back away from powder formulas. Sure, they’ve been our trusted friend for very long. but they aren’t compatible with the rain. Instead, pick out a few cream-based products that will help you through hail or snow (we exaggerate for effect). Cream blushes and highlighters will give you that gorgeous and seemingly natural flush that you’re after without any fuss or muss.
Powder it down
Humidity is no friend to your skin. It can make your face oily, sticky and shiny. And this is everything we are trying to avoid, right? What you need in your arsenal is a trustworthy setting powder. This will not let the weather compromise your make-up by keeping excess oil at bay and holding your make-up in place. Loose powders will also give you a fresh and matte finish.
Optimise your lip and cheek tints
In the last few years, there has been a surge in lip and cheek tints. If you haven’t used one before, don’t let yourself get thrown by the formulation. These multitasking products pack quite a punch, especially when it comes to staying put all day long and delivering a healthy-looking flush. The best part? You can use the same product on your cheeks, lips, and eyes for a monochromatic look in minutes.
Waterproof everything
We saved the no-brainer one for last. Since it’s been raining for some time now, we imagine your cart is already overflowing with waterproof make-up. If not, then you should at least invest in some waterproof mascara and eyeliner. Otherwise, if you get trapped in a downpour, your make-up will bleed, leaving you looking like the emo girl in every Y2K music video. You should also have a few waterproof matte lipsticks in your vanity. However, keep in mind that waterproof make-up is tricky to get rid of. So along with these also have a good cleansing balm on hand.
