How to wear Viva Magenta—The Pantone colour of 2023
Pull out the makeup brushes, cause magenta is here to stay
The MET Gala, SRK’s next movie, and the Pantone Colour Of The Year—there are very few things that we as a human race really anticipate. Although 2022 was all about ‘very peri’, most of the year was dominated by the famous and eyeball-grabbing Valentino and Barbiecore pink. While we are still obsessing over the shocking hue, 2023’s protagonist is ‘viva magenta’, a crimson red shade that is far bolder than its predecessor, but not as loud as the trendy pinks. The best part is that this shade can be incorporated into your makeup routines, in more ways than just one—whether you are looking for something more subdued or OTT, there’s something for everyone. So, brace yourselves! Here are creative ways in which you can wear the Pantone Colour of 2023—makeup edition.
Eyes
Eyeshadow
Instead of the usual smokey eye, one simple way to play around with the viva magenta hue is to literally play around with it across your lids. Have fun with shapes and lines—one way to do this is to focus the colour only on the inner corners of your eyes. If you want to go a little overboard (but not too much), using a creamy matte magenta across your lids as a wash will add a pop of colour to your eyes. Looking for drama? Think magenta in glitter or gloss across your eyes—it’s perfect for the party season!
Mascara
We don’t quite give mascara the credit it deserves. A little lash lift with a splash of magenta (and nothing else) is enough to push the bar up a few notches. You can either pair it with a similar toned eyeliner or keep it bare and beautiful!
On The Lips
Viva magenta isn’t new to the pout—and there are so many ways to wear it. Subtle? Wear it as a wash of colour! Glam? Add a touch of lip gloss to the hue! Somewhere in between? Create an ombre lip with two tones of viva magenta—focus on the lighter tone in the centre and the darker tone elsewhere. Blend it out with your ring finger to give your pout that smudged and soft effect. Matte or glossy, you won’t be disappointed!
On The Cheeks
Swap your pink blush for a deeper red flush of colour. Play it safe by adding just a bit on the apples of your cheeks, or simply drape it across your cheekbones and onto your lids for a more dramatic effect.
